Did you know that the office of Sheriff originated during of the Feudal System in Medieval England? The role was primarily for the purpose of collecting taxes/enforcing tax laws AND then EVENTUALLY other laws. Today, the WV Sheriff is the chief tax collector while being the ex officio treasurer of the county he or she serves. In other words, the Sheriff is responsible for the collection of all revenue and disbursement of all monies due from the county treasury. As the Treasurer of Jefferson County, I will work to ensure the Tax Office provides a high level of customer service and accountability to the community and to the government that it serves.
